Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is the foundational doctrine of how to live as a Catholic in the world. CST begins with the human person and examines the manner in which a Catholic relates to others interpersonally, socially, politically, economically, and religiously. The body of CST spans the whole of the Church's history but has been richly expounded in recent decades. The course is designed around the outline of CST as contained in the great documents of the Church and compiled in the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church (Compendium, 2004). Supportive material presented by the USCCB and other sources is included. In the current catastrophic ecclesial environment, we will seek guidance from CST in understanding and responding to the church sex abuse crisis.
