The Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) was THE major event in the Church in the twentieth century. Sixty years since the start of the council and its meaning and impact is still being discussed. There has been quite a bit of ink spilled in attempting to interpret and understand the Council. In order to understand the development of doctrine that took place at the Council better, we will read the four constitutions as well as select declarations and decrees and examine the contexts that gave rise to these documents including the Biblical and Liturgical Movements.
